HUNTING LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

HUNTER EDUCATION
Required for all first-time hunters (any age):
• Classroom or online course
• Live-fire component in most states
• One-time requirement (valid nationwide)
• Takes 8-12 hours typically

New York Fishing & Hunting License

New York requires license for both. Sunday hunting allowed (changed 2022). Deer management permits by lottery. Adirondacks have special rules.

FISHING: License required age 16+ ($25 resident, $50 non-resident). Trout/salmon stamp for Lake Ontario tributaries. HUNTING: License required ($22 resident, $100 non-resident). SUNDAY HUNTING now ALLOWED (law changed 2022). Deer management permits (antlerless) by lottery. Turkey: spring and fall. Bear tags available Adirondacks and Catskills. Hunter education required.
