CNMI FIREARMS - LICENSE REQUIRED
No person may acquire or possess any firearm - or firearm ammunition - in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands without a current Firearm Owner's Identification Card issued by the Department of Public Safety (6 CMC 10601, SAFE Act). Applicants must generally be 21 years of age or older. Limited exemptions cover law enforcement, military on duty, and persons lawfully transporting firearms through the Commonwealth under 18 U.S.C. 926A. Handgun ownership became licensable after Radich v. Guerrero (2016), subject to registration and SAFE Act restrictions. Carrying firearms in public is tightly restricted; do not assume any mainland-style open or concealed carry is lawful. Federal firearms laws also apply.
