Prohibited Places - Where You Cannot Carry

Louisiana: entering a building past a compliant posted sign forbidding entry is itself a misdemeanor under La. R.S. 14:63.3 (fine up to $500 and/or up to 6 months) — being 'forbidden' expressly includes notice 'in writing, including by means of any sign,' so no personal warning is required first.

Constitutional Carry - No Permit Required

Louisiana allows permitless concealed carry for anyone 18+ who may legally possess a firearm (effective July 4, 2024); concealed handgun permits are still issued and remain useful for carrying in other states, and carry stays prohibited in schools, courthouses, places of worship, bars, polling places, and other locations listed in R.S. 40:1379.3(N).

Louisiana became constitutional carry on July 4, 2024. Anyone 18+ may carry concealed without permit. Open carry was already legal. Prohibited places: schools, courthouses, places of worship, bars. La. R.S. 14:95. Concealed handgun permits are still issued shall-issue (R.S. 40:1379.3(A)) and remain useful for out-of-state reciprocity; the complete prohibited-place list (including polling places and government meeting places) is in R.S. 40:1379.3(N).

No Magazine Capacity Limit

Louisiana has no state-level magazine capacity restrictions. Standard and extended magazines are legal.

No-Carry Signs - Entry Past a Posted Sign Is a Misdemeanor

Louisiana: entering premises after being forbidden 'either orally or in writing, including by means of any sign' is itself a misdemeanor (up to $500 and six months) under La. R.S. 14:63.3 — no request to leave is required — and carrying a concealed handgun into another's private residence requires the occupant's prior consent (R.S. 40:1379.3).
