Alabama has dry counties and cities. Open containers are prohibited for driver and passengers in the passenger area, with exceptions for CDL-operated for-hire vehicles, buses and camper/motor-home living quarters. State stores sell liquor.

Alabama has a mixed system - some "dry" counties ban alcohol sales entirely. Check local laws before purchasing. OPEN CONTAINER: Prohibited for the driver AND for passengers in the vehicle's passenger area. Statutory exceptions (Ala. Code § 32-5A-330(c)): passengers in a vehicle carrying passengers for compensation or in a bus, where the driver holds a CDL; and the living quarters of a camper, motor home, house coach, or house trailer. DUI: 0.08% BAC. Liquor sold only through ABC stores (state-controlled). Beer/wine in grocery stores. Sunday sales vary by locality - some prohibit or have limited hours.
