NYC has comprehensive noise code. Strictest enforcement in US. Construction, music, horns all regulated.

NYC Noise Code (Admin. Code §24-201): construction 7AM-6PM weekdays, permit required otherwise. Music audible 25+ feet = violation if unreasonable. Dogs barking 10+ min daytime/5+ min nighttime = violation. Horn honking except safety = $350+ fine. 45dB nighttime residential. Extensive enforcement.

New York: Most cities have noise ordinances. Typical quiet hours 10pm-7am. Rules vary by zone (residential vs commercial).

TYPICAL QUIET HOURS
• Residential areas: 10pm - 7am (weekdays), 11pm - 8am (weekends)
• Some cities: Start as early as 9pm
• Sundays: Often extended quiet hours

WHAT'S USUALLY PROHIBITED
During quiet hours:
• Loud music/parties
• Power tools
• Lawn equipment
• Vehicle repairs
• Barking dogs (excessive)
• Amplified sound

DECIBEL LIMITS (COMMON)
• Residential daytime: 55-65 dB
• Residential nighttime: 45-55 dB
• Commercial: 65-75 dB
• Industrial: 75-80 dB

For reference:
• Normal conversation: 60 dB
• Vacuum cleaner: 70 dB
• Lawn mower: 90 dB

CONSTRUCTION NOISE
• Usually limited to daytime hours
• Weekdays: 7am - 6pm typical
• Weekends: Often prohibited or limited
• Holidays: Usually no construction

EXCEPTIONS
• Emergency work
• Public events with permit
• Agricultural operations
• Aircraft/transit
• Religious bells (some areas)

PENALTIES
• First offense: Warning or small fine ($100-$500)
• Repeat offenses: Higher fines
• Chronic violations: Misdemeanor possible
• Can be sued civilly by neighbors

• Generator rules at campgrounds
• RV park quiet hours (often 10pm-8am)
